People learn better when they can connect prior information to new information. Therapypopculture uses pop culture (books, movies, comics, TV, movies, sports, etc.) as a way to help learn new coping skills to achieve health and wellness.
Dr. Danielle Watkins and Dr. Holly Walters graduated together from Oregon State University with doctorates in Counselor Education. They both work in clinical mental health and counselor supervision. They practice from a wellness stance and focus on individuals attaining their health and wellbeing goals.
They share interests in different movies and shows (Harry Potter and Gilmore Girls to name a couple) and came up with the idea of combining known pop culture books, movies, songs, etc. to assist people with learning and using coping skills.
